Is Oprah new age

QUESTION: Is Oprah new age?

ANSWER:

Is Oprah new age? During Oprah Winfrey’s “Remember Your Spirit” period in the 1990’s, she formed close ties to Marianne Williamson. Williamson is one of today’s renowned new age leaders. In January 2008, Oprah’s 365-day curriculum A Course in Miracles (taught by Williamson) was launched. This course indoctrinates people into a new age mystical mindset based on the teachings of a pseudo-Christ. For example, Lesson 29 directs you to spend your day affirming that “God is in everything I see.”1 Lesson 61 tells each person to repeat the affirmation “I am the light of the world.”2 Lesson 70 teaches the student to say and believe, “My salvation comes from me.”3

Is Oprah new age – Teachings on Jesus
In regards to Jesus Christ, how is Oprah new age? In Matthew 24, Jesus repeatedly cautions us about false teachers, doctrine, and “Christs” who would pretend to be Him (verses 9–10). A Course in Miracles presents itself as a New Age Bible:
  • “There is no sin...“4
  • “Do not make the pathetic error of ‘clinging to the old rugged cross.’”5
  • The Name of Jesus as such is but a symbol...It is a symbol that is safely used as a replacement for the many names of all the gods to which you pray.”6
  • A “slain Christ has no meaning.”7
  • “The Atonement is the final lesson he [man] need learn, for it teaches him that, never having sinned, he has no need of salavation.”8
Should Christians ask, “Is Oprah, new age?” It is alarming that Oprah is considered, “The Queen of the New Age Gurus” (Bill Keller–internet evangelist). Oprah's meditation chant from her Live Your Best Life Tour in 2001 states, “If you’re not comfortable with the word God, it doesn’t matter.” Oprah is seen by 15–20 million viewers daily in over 130 countries. As Christians, we must realize that Jesus Christ is being recreated, redefined, and ridiculed daily throughout the world. First Timothy 4:1-2 warns us, "Now the Holy Spirit tells us clearly that in the last times some will turn away from what we believe; they will follow lying spirits and teachings that come from demons. These teachers are hypocrites and liars. They pretend to be religious, but their consciences are dead.”

What do you think?
We have all sinned and deserve God’s judgment. God, the Father, sent His only Son to satisfy that judgment for those who believe in Him. Jesus, the creator and eternal Son of God, who lived a sinless life, loves us so much that He died for our sins, taking the punishment that we deserve, was buried, and rose from the dead according to the Bible. If you truly believe and trust this in your heart, receiving Jesus alone as your Savior, declaring, "Jesus is Lord," you will be saved from judgment and spend eternity with God in heaven.

What is your response?

Yes, I want to follow Jesus

I am a follower of Jesus

I still have questions
